CAIRO: The General Guide of Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood, Dr. Mohamed Badie, asked to visit the head of Egypt's Coptic Christian Church, Pope Shenouda III. This will be the first visit in 30 years. Badie intends to congratulate the Pope on his recovery. Badie's visit is considered the first step in starting a dialogue between the church and the Muslim Brotherhood. Pope Shenouda is expected to arrive tomorrow morning from the U.S. where he traveled to receive medical treatment. General Security of the Muslim Brotherhood, Dr. Mahmud el-Amin, said the time for the visit has not yet been determined, but will soon be by the church. El-Amin said the main purpose of this visit is for Badie to congratulate the Pope on his recovery. Politics and current events may also be discussed during the visit. Orthodox Patriarchate Deputy Sergius Sergius denied receiving any official requests from Badie to visit the Pope. According to Sergius, the request was made during a phone call before the Pope travelled to the U.S., but Badie never sent a request to determine a date for the visit. Sergius said the time of the visit will be decided after the Pope returns to Egypt. Christians and the Muslim Brotherhood have communicated with each other in many of Egypt's governorates, including Qena, Giza and Alexandria.
