Dr. Hany Amer headed to Inshas nuclear plant for inspection mandated by head of nuclear safety center Dr. Mohamed Ibrahim, after what a newspaper published about radiation leakage in the nuclear reactor. In a press conference held at the area of the reactor, Amer assured he measured the radiation levels and they were normal, assuring the reactors don't pose any danger to the surrounding area or the workers at the reactor. He stressed the center hasn't issued any reports yet due to regulations and measures about the inspection process. He said the report described the so-called crisis as a “normal incident” and not a radiation incident. The head of the nuclear reactors department in Inshas, Dr. Naguib Ashoob, said the nuclear plant was monitored on May 26 by the inspectors of the IAEA. They didn't record any radiation leakage even with their sensitive devices to measure radiation levels. Ashoob said the IAEA worked for five hours without condemning the Nuclear Energy Authority or the workers at the reactor. An official in the Nuclear Energy Authority, Kamal Shaath said the Argentinean reactor holds experiments to pave the way for operation at the end of June. He said the Argentinean delegation arrived in Cairo to attend the experimental operation process currently conducted. There were claims the Inshas reactor suffered water leakage during conduction of maintenance process on May 25. This matter raised controversy between the authority and the safety center about the reactor operation process.
