CAIRO: Demonstrators in Cairo's Tahrir Square hit a policeman as he tried to prevent them from demonstrating against the Egyptian police system today. The demonstrators chanted, “Oh Tantawi get up and take action, the Interior Ministry is a thorn in your flesh.” Hussein Tantawi is the head of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces, which has been charged with Egypt's administration since February. The demonstrators also accused the policeman of being one of former regime's followers. Vendors in the square hurried to defend the policeman from the demonstrators until the policeman managed to leave the square. The demonstration was staged to condemn police torturing and killing of civilians. Yesterday a policeman was accused of killing a student in Fayoum governorate. Fayoum residents attended the funeral of the 17-year-old student, Mohammed Mahmoud Abdel Hamid. The student's father said to Youm7 that he will not give up his son's rights regardless of any repercussions. Arabic here.
