According to Major Saad Abbasi, the Secretary General of Tourist Shops and Goods Chamber, 1500 tourist bazaars are not licensed, 279 are licensed for the locals and 160 are licensed by the Ministry of Tourism. A survey carried out by Counsel Abu Bakr Sultan from the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics shows that the first phase has been completed. This survey aims to place restrictions on all bazaars in Egypt since tourist shops have increased. Abbasi said the survey is divided into four phases. The first phase, which has already finished, includes greater Cairo. The second phase includes the Red Sea governorate, the third one South Sinai, and the fourth includes Luxor and Aswan. This survey is financed equally by PTO and the Ministry of Tourism, costing approximately 400 thousand Egyptian pounds.
