The General Petroleum Company launched an initiative to support Egyptian national economy by deducting ten EGP (U.S. $1.68) and a full day of employees' salary. This deduction will be transferred to the Egyptian Economy Support Account monthly. The company also increased working hours and cancelled weekend vacations to boost production. “All employees in the company approved of this initiative,” a specialist at the oil company Mohamed Hussein Ibrahim Hammam said. “The rest of the branches of the company (in Eastern Sahara, Western Sahara and Sinai) will be informed to take the first step of the imitative.” “Other companies in the petroleum sector will be addressed to apply the same plan,” Ibrahim added. “The country is affected by recent political events which led to economic crisis. To face this crisis, we need bank loans or aid from foreign countries to support our economy with this initiative.”
