TEHRAN, Iran: A street in Tehran named after the man who assassinated former Egyptian President Anwar Sadat will be renamed to “Egypt's Martyrs.” Mohamed Saleh Sedqeian, director of the Arab Center for Iranian Studies, said the Iranians have begun taking the necessary measures to change the street's name from “Khaled Islambouli Street” to “Egypt's Martyrs Street.” The idea to change the name of the street was proposed by the Egyptian Public delegation and gained a lot of support. Khalid Islambouli was an Egyptian army officer who planned and participated in the assassination of Egypt's third president, Anwar Sadat, during the annual 6th October victory parade on October 6, 1981. Sadat drew strong criticism on himself and Egypt after signing a peace agreement with Israel at Camp David. Sedqeian said the Egyptian delegation will strengthen Egypt-Iran relations by mutual visits which are welcomed by the Iranian government. He affirmed that Iran does not intend to export the Shiite Revolution abroad, as the Iranian foreign policy seeks to protect its relations with other countries.
