ASWAN: Quarrels continue between shop owners and tourism companies in Aswan, in Upper Egypt. A group of shopkeepers have filed a complaint to the governor demanding an end to tourism companies' practice of favoring certain bazaars and shops over others. Many shop owners have expressed anger over this practice which, gives certain bazaars monopoly powers over the tourist trade. Some shop owners are even considering holding a sit-in. Mustafa Abdel-Kader, an owner of a shop in the market, told Youm 7 that all promises given to shop owners from the tourism companies and governor have not yet been implemented, and there is still a monopoly. Abdel-Kader wants a final solution to this matter, as this practice continues to enrage shop keepers. He said the companies themselves benefit from these shops as they receive from them 70% commission. There are hundreds of workers suffering from recession and the stagnation of the tourist market, he added.
