AMSTERDAM, Netherlands: Coptic Christians in the Netherlands will protest outside the Saudi Arabian and Egyptian Embassies on May 23, calling for the establishment of a civil state in Egypt and activating citizenship, justice, and rule of law. The demonstrators condemn the violence against Coptic Christians by Islamic hardliners who receive funds from foreign companies, said the head of the Netherlands Coptic Society, Bahaa Ramzy. He said the Coptic protest outside the Saudi Arabian Embassy is the first of its kind in the world to show to raise awareness that Saudi Arabia is funding Islamic groups with Wahabi ideology. Ramzy said former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's regime was organizing attacks against the Christians who were optimistic after the January 25 Revolution that toppled him, but “winds blow counter to what ships desire.” He said the transitional government is still weak toward fundamental trends and unable to put an end to repeated sectarian violence. He also criticized security forces for detaining people suspected of sectarian violence as they still have the right to defend themselves by saying it is the remains of the last regime's policy.
