CAIRO: About 2,000 Egyptians participated in a march calling for national unity yesterday in the streets of Cairo. Participants raised crosses and Qurans in the air and chanted slogans to express the unity of the Egyptian people condemn those who committed sectarian crimes in Imbaba. The march was organized by the National Association for Change, the main campaign that supports Mohamed el-Baradei, and the April 6 Youth Movement. Residents of Imbaba and a number of public figures participated in the march, including Hamdy Kandeel and his wife, the popular actress Naglaa Fathi, Dr. Abdel-Galil Mustafa, counselor Zakria Abdel-Aziz, activist Wael Ghoneim, poet Abdel-Rahman Yousef, priest Dawood Nabil, and Nasserite author Nour al-Huda Zaki. Muslims prayed their Maghreb Prayer near the Virgin Mary Church in Imababa then chanted "Muslim & Christian united in one hand" and "Our revolution is national and against all thugs." Priest Dawood Nabil supported the unity of Muslims and Christians. He said Egyptians should not allow thugs or the remnants of the former regime to interfere with unity between all Egyptians. He said, "Our strength is in our unity and we must not lose what we have gained in the revolution." A popular political activist among Egypt's youth, Wael Ghoneim, called for prosecuting criminals involved in Imbaba's accident. He demanded for Egyptian youth to play a notable role and resolve differences among one another. Spokesman of American Egyptians alliance, Sabry al-Baga, demanded the establishment of a civil state based on principle of citizenship. He stressed the necessity of separating religion from politics.
