RAFAH, Egypt: Recently reconciled Palestinian factions Fatah and Hamas will gather in Cairo next week to form a new Palestinian government. Abd el-Aziz al-Sheqaqi, head of the Consortium of Independent Palestinians (CIP), said the factions are gathering "to discuss means of forming a new Palestinian government and carrying out all reconciliation provisions." The committee will appoint a new prime minister and cabinet, al-Sheqaqi said in a press conference in Gaza. Al-Sheqaqi said the new government will organize presidential and legislative elections, and tackle internal issues caused by division, reconstructing the Gaza strip and unifing authority institutions. He added that no partisan member is allowed to participate in the new technocratic government. An Egyptian security delegation will travel to Gaza after the meeting to monitor the process of accomplishing reconciliation, according to al-Sheqaqi. He also said the factions will form five committees: government, liberation organization, elections, security, and reconciliation. Each committee will be held responsible over its respective duty.
