CAIRO: Dr. Ahmed al-Saman, advisor to Egypt's Prime Minister, backed away from earlier statements that the Cabinet had accepted amending some provisions of Law No. 73 of 1956. Saman told the cabinet journalists that the Cabinet intends to delete the last paragraph of Article 1 of the law, which prohibits police and military personnel from voting in various elections. In a phone call with Youm7, Saman said the Cabinet has discussed the matter but has not yet made a decision. He said amendments should be discussed with the public before a decision is made to allow policemen and soldiers to vote in elections.
