Arabic: جامعة عين شمس Established: 1950 Ain Shams is the third oldest public university in Cairo. It was first established as an informal group of distinguished faculties and academic institutes in 1950. Ain Shams helped to fulfill the demand for higher educational facilities in Egypt along with Cairo University and the University of Alexandria. In 1950, Ain Shams had eight distinct faculties, including arts and commerce. The university has expanded extensively over the years. Its current academic structure includes 15 faculties, 1 college, 2 higher educational institutes and 12 educational centers. Ain Shams also offers a faculty for women only, including a college of arts, science, and education. Ain Shams currently has eight campuses in Cairo with a total undergraduate student population of over 170,000.
