QENA, Egypt: Amr Moussa, Secretary-General of the Arab League and presidential nominee, discussed his presidential platform in Nag Hammadi in Upper Egypt on Thursday. Moussa said there has been a major unbalance in Egypt over the past years and that the next president should tackle this issue. “Personal benefits at the expense of Egypt have been ended because we are now able to build Egypt by setting up a new constitution which will organize the coming period,” Moussa said. Moussa said Egypt should be a civil state with safety and security, and added that the January 25 Revolution gave Egyptians the chance to overthrow its dictatorial regime. Moussa also visited the monastery of Nag Hammadi, whose guardian bishop confirmed that the Church does not oppose Article 2 of the Egyptian constitution, which says Egypt in an Islamic state and names Sharia (Islamic law) as the basis for legislation. During his meeting with the youth, Moussa said he does not belong to any political party. He also said his platform includes fighting poverty, unemployment, and shortage of national projects. Moussa added that anyone who impairs political life in Egypt has no place in this democratic Egypt. He also addressed the role of agriculture in Egypt. “We do not ignore that Egypt is an agricultural country,” he said. “During the coming period we will take care of cultivation in Egypt. We should also consider agreement with other countries, including our agreement to export gas to Israel.” Commenting on the Egypt-Iran relations, Moussa said Cairo should hold dialogues with Tehran regarding different situations in Arab countries, especially the Palestinian case, to reach stability in the region.
