Treika to miss Champions League final
Published in FilGoal on 12 - 09 - 2012

Ahli star Mohamed Abou-Treika is certain to miss the Champions League final should the Reds march through the competition's semis after being hit by a two-month club ban.
Abou-Treika was sanctioned for refusing to take part in Ahli's 2-1 Super Cup victory over ENPPI last weekend, a sanction that would remain active till November 11 which is the last proposed date for the competition's second-leg final.
“The punishment remains active on both local and continental fronts," football director Sayed Abdul-Hafiz told FilGoal.com.
“It has been rumored that he is suspended only locally, but that's untrue, Abou-Treika won't play in the Champions League as well."
The midfield stalwart's recent act to pull out of the season's curtain-raiser was understood to be in support of the Ultras Ahlawy refusal to resume domestic activity before ‘justice is served' against the Port-Said disaster culprits.
Short of the two-month ban, Abou-Treika was fined a hefty EGP 500,000 in addition to being stripped of the captaincy armband.
Ahli, who lie second in Group B after DR Congo's Mazembe, have already secured a semi-final berth but are still hopeful of finishing top when they face arch-rivals Zamalek in Sunday's last group-stage game.
The Reds will face either two-time African champions Esperance or Nigeria's Sunshine stars as the semi-final first-leg takes place on 5/6/7 of October.
