Zamalek claim they have been given the green light to allow their fans to attend the home Champions League home game against Berekum Chelsea on Saturday. The Whites said on their official website that the Ministry of Interior has agreed to allow fans attend the continental match for the first time in seven months. However, attendants will not be allowed to pack the stands as only a limited number is permitted for the game, even though the Cairo club have yet to be informed of a specific number. All domestic competitions were suspended in the wake of the Port-Said tragedy that left some 74 fans killed back in February, as continental home fixtures have been staged in the absence of fans for security reasons. The authorities' fresh approval is believed to be as an attempt to resurrect domestic football activity following a decision to continue suspending football a month ago, an announcement that triggered state of dismay among many parties involved in the game. Zamalek fans are not expected to relish the decision much though, as the five-time African champions have already been ousted from the competition following four straight defeats that left them languishing at the bottom of Group B on nil points. Zamalek will meet city rivals Ahli in the group finale next month in the ever-exciting Cairo derby; an occasion that may well be decisive in bringing Egyptian football back to life.
