Mohamed Zidan remained as an unused sub as Mainz grabbed vital 3-0 win over Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga. Top scorer Zidan was surprisingly left on the bench by manager Thomas Tuchel for the first time since his January loan move from Borussia Dortmund. Hungarian striker Adam Szalai opened the scoring on 19 minutes and Cameroon international Eric Choupo-Moting came off the bench to add two more after the break. The win boosted Mainz's hopes of survival as they jump from 12th place to 10th, moving five points clear of the bottom three.
