Mohamed Zidan couldn't help Mainz avoid a second successive defeat to lowly Hertha Berlin, who won 3-1 at the Coface Arena. Goals from Anis Ben-Hatira and Adrian Ramos (twice) saw off Mainz, who scored via Cameroonian forward Eric Choupo-Moting. Egypt forward Zidan played most of the game before being replaced by Mario Gavranovic ten minutes from time. It is the first home defeat for Thomas Tuchel's side since October 2011. Mainz remain 12th of the Bundesliga table with 30 points, only three off the relegation zone.
