Hossam Hassan has backtracked on his decision to quit Masri following the tragic events that involved his team in this month's league game with Ahli. Hassan led Masri to beating the league holders in Port-Said on February 1, only for the home fans to launch a vicious attack on their visitors after the game, causing the death of 77 Ahli supporters. The former Egypt forward, along with twin brother Ibrahim, announced their resignation right after the events, adding that they will not work again in Egypt. However, the twins seem to have had a change of heart as Hossam jumped to the defense of his beleaguered club. Victim “I will not leave Masri after fans and club officials had shown their faith in me recently,” the ex-Zamalek coach told Al-Hayat TV. “My decision to quit was only because I was sad for what had happened and also because I expected chairman Kamel Abou-Ali to step down. “I think many people were unfair to Masri after what happened, but at the same time it is necessary that criminals are brought to justice. “The fans of Port-Said do not deserve the treatment they are getting since the events had occurred. “This could have happened anywhere, and I believe Port-Said is unlucky to become a victim of poor security.”
