Zamalek bus stoned in Port Said on eve of Masry clash

Zamalek was given hostile reception in Port Said ahead of Saturday's Egyptian Premier League clash against Masry

Zamalek's team bus was stoned upon arrival in Port Said where they were to face Masry in the Egyptian Premier League on Saturday.
Some stone-throwing Masry supporters, whose fans were also involved in a free-for-all with their Ahly counterparts last month, smashed the windows of Zamalek's bus in the early Saturday hours as security worries arose in a country still reeling following January's revolution.
Security officials in Port Said insisted they were tracking “the thugs” who attacked Zamalek's bus to bring them to trial.
Zamalek's football director Ibrahim Hassan said he was astonished following the unfortunate incident and asked the local authorities to protect his team ahead of the crucial game.
“We were stopped from entering Port Said by [Masry] fans for four hours. All the players were scared after many stones were thrown at our bus,” Hassan, the twin brother of head coach Hossam, said on the club's official website.
“Hossam and I have full respect for Masry fans. I don't know why this happened.”
Reports said Masry's angry supporters also hurled insults against Hossam and Ibrahim, who managed their club for several months in 2008 before being fired after losing their temper in a regional game against Algeria's JSM Bejaia.
Zamalek's board condemned the incident and decided not to travel to Port Said to attend the game in protest against Masry's general manager's claims that Zamalek players actually broke the windows of their own bus.
