A quality strike from Ghanaian Harrison Afful handed Tunisia's Esperance their first African Champions League title in 17 years, edging out Wydad Casablanca of Morocco. Afful's first-half goal was enough to give the Tunisians a 1-0 win in Rades and grab a narrow aggregate victory, following a goalless draw in Casablanca in the first leg. Wydad played the whole second half with a man down after defender Mourad Lemssen was sent off for an off-the-ball incident. Esperance have now made up for their failure to win the title last year, following a 6-1 thrashing by DR Congo's Mazembe in the final. Nabil Maaloul's men were only beaten once in 14 Champions League games this term, losing 2-0 at ASPAC of Benin, in a last 32 tie they comfortably won 5-2 on aggregate.
