Egypt denied from staging Olympic qualifiers

Egypt will not be staging the 2012 Olympics African qualifying tournament next month due to security reasons, FA spokesman Azmi Megahed has confirmed.
“Authorities in Egypt requested not to stage the tournament on home soil because it is equivalent to the timing of the parliamentary elections, which require massive security,” Megahed told FilGoal.com.
The tournament, including eight teams, was supposed to be staged from the 26th of November to the 10th of December, with three teams qualifying for the London finals.
Egypt were drawn in Group A alongside Ivory Coast, Gabon and South Africa.
A replacement host has yet to be announced by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
