Egypt manager Hassan Shehata, under fire after his team's hopes to reach the 2012 African Cup of Nations were diminished, said he will not resign. "I will not quit," said Shehata, who is the only manager in Africa to win the nations cup for three successive tournaments. "If they want to fire me, then it's their decision," he added, referring to the Egyptian FA that called for an emergency meeting to discuss the future of the team. This meeting was scheduled for Wednesday but was delayed for one day as some board members are out of the country. EFA chairman Samir Zaher will announce in a press conference after the meeting whether Shehata will see out his contract that runs till 2014 or leave immediately. The African champions in 2006, 2008 and 2010 are rooted in Group G of the qualifiers, with one point from three games.
Will Zaher sack Shehata? South Africa lead with seven points, followed by Niger on six. This situation leaves Egypt with a little chance to qualify as group winners or even among the best two second-placed teams across ten groups. If sacked, the former Zamalek star has no intention to overlook the compensation clause in his contract. "I can see no reason why I don't get paid all my dues," he added. Shehata's salary is undisclosed but media reports suggest he is paid around EGP 150,000 per month. His contract entitles him to get a three-month salary in compensation if sacked before 2014.
