Promising striker Dominique Da Silva scored on his competitive debut for Ahli Friday to seal a 2-0 victory over SuperSport United in the Red Devils' Champions League opener. A strike partnership consisting of Osama Hosni and Dominique proved to be potent, with both players netting one goal apiece. Hosni hit the opener only after three minutes before the Mauritanian hitman completed the rout six minutes from time after spurring a couple of clear-cut chances. Ahli were by far superior most of the game, although the visitors could have scored more than once, especially in the second half. Gaddafi's Rickshaw Some of Ahli's spectators made fun of the Libyan president, with one huge banner in the stands reading: “(Muammar)Gaddafi stole my auto rickshaw.” A civil war broke out in Libya as the autocratic leader employed his military forces to hit rebels who conquered several cities and are seeking to bring down the regime. Gaddafi, widely deemed a war criminal, is renowned for his eccentric behavior. His mental condition is questioned by many people too. He recently hit out at his critics from the back seat of an auto rickshaw while holding an umbrella, a footage that was met with widespread sarcasm in the Arab World. Early Lead Early Lead Ahli took an early lead when Hossam Ghaly sent a long pass, which Ahmed Fathi latched onto before whipping in a cross that was headed home by an unopposed Hosni. Five minutes later, the South African outfit could have restored parity when a free kick was diverted towards the goal only for the headed effort to hit the woodwork. Wide man Sayed Moawad wasted a golden chance to double Ahli's advantage on 16 minutes. Mohamed Abou-Treika flicked the ball to him near the six-yard box but SuperSport defenders soon clear the danger. Dominique had the first chance to break his Ahli scoring duck on the stroke of halftime when he went one-on-one with the keeper, but his poor finishing was no threat. SuperSport Redeem Themselves SuperSport redeemed themselves right after the interval. Ricardo Katza came close to bringing the score level as he connected with a corner kick but saw his powerful header hit the side-netting. SuperSport carved out several opportunities later on, including a curling corner kick that struck the post. A number of Ahli's supporters lit up flares to lift their team's spirits with their opponents improving, causing a big cloud of smoke. Dominique squandered another scoring opportunity when the keeper blocked his fierce low drive from close range. He eventually opened his account with a low shot when he was set up by Mohamed Shawky in the area.
