Ahli keeper Sherif Ekrami said on Wednesday he was unhappy to have his displays 'hastily assessed' by Egyptian media. The 27-year-old, son of Ahli great and former keeper Ekrami, has been the team's first-choice goalie since joining last January after ending a short spell at Gouna. He put in some fine displays between the sticks but is yet to convince the Red Devils' faithful that he is the ideal replacement for Essam Al-Hadari, who left the club in an abrupt manner in February 2008. Ekrami was partially blamed for Military Production's sole goal in Monday's 2-1 Egyptian Premier League defeat by Ahli but he defended himself in a phone interview with Modern Sport. "It is inappropriate for the media to make such hasty judgments. They should not evaluate my displays on a match-by-match basis," the former Feyenoord man said. "They should make an overall assessment instead, they should look at how I performed with Ahli since the day I arrived. "I'm also not responsible for the goal we conceded against Production, it wasn't my fault." Production took a surprise lead early in the second half when Mohamed Abd-Rabou 'Felix' superbly flicked an inviting free kick into the far corner of the net. They could not hold onto their advantage though as two goals from Ahli duo Mohamed Fadl and Mohamed Abou-Treika overturned the deficit and gave the title holders all three points. Ekrami hopes to break into Egypt's squad despite not being called up since making a rare appearance in a friendly game against Uruguay in 2006. "It will be an honor for me if I play for Egypt. I hope that my current displays with Ahli will help me achieve that aim," he added. "I'm no stranger to the national team because I played in an international game four years ago but my limited playing time at Feyenoord cost me that place."
