Ahmed Elmohamady has been kept on the bench for the first time since his arrival at Sunderland in Tuesday's 2-0 win over lowly side Colchester in the Carling Cup. The 22-year-old, who moved the Stadium of Light on a season-long loan from ENPPI in the off-season, was included in the starting eleven of Sunderland's first two Premiership games. However, manager Steve Bruce kept him on the sidelines the whole 90 minutes of the Carling Cup match. Darren Bent hit a brace to give the Black Cats the victory that saw them advance from the competition's second round. Before the match, Bruce said that rushing Elmohamady into action might have been unfair towards the Egypt wing-back. The highly-rated wide man made a competitive debut to remember for Sunderland in the 2-2 draw with Birmingham City in the Premier League. He was taken off in the dying minutes of the season opener when he made way for Martyn Waghorn, after producing a praiseworthy display. However, Elmohamady was less impressive in the 1-0 loss to Bromwich Albion last weekend.
