Defender Amir Azmi was released by Harras Hodoud without playing a single game for the Egyptian Cup winners. Hodoud signed the former Zamalek man in the January transfer window but he was snubbed by coach Tarek Al-Ashri for no apparent reason. "Azmi is one of five players we decided to offload in the close season," Al-Ashri, who guided Hodoud to a second successive Egyptian Cup triumph, told FilGoal.com on Tuesday. The 27-year-old joined Hodoud after terminating his contract with Turkish side Diyarbakirspor, who could not afford to pay him his dues. He was expected to play a major part in Hodoud's league and cup campaigns but ended up leaving the team without stepping onto the pitch. Hodoud have also decided to dispense with Ghanaian striker Fofo Wisdom and Malian midfielder Abdoulaye Sidibe. Wisdom scored one goal in his few cameo appearances while Sidibe failed to convince Al-Ashri that he was good enough to remain at the club. Hodoud finished sixth in the Egyptian Premier League but ended the season in a more convincing fashion, clinching the cup title after beating Cairo giants Ahli in the final. They will meet the league winners again in the Egyptian Super Cup next month.
