Zamalek's want-out shot-stopper Mohamed Abdul-Monsef has agreed with the Cairo club to depart by the end of the ongoing term. The 33-year-old, who plays second-fiddle to Abdul-Wahed Al-Sayed, wants to carry on his career elsewhere in order to play regular first-team football. After a meeting with Zamalek's board member Hazem Emam, Abdul-Monsef announced that his days with the White Knights are numbered. "Emam understands my situation and promised me to facilitate my exit at the season's end," the towering keeper told FilGoal.com. "I made sure to give Zamalek enough time to bring in another goalie. I didn't want to leave all of a sudden in the summer."
Al-Sayed Abdul-Monsef joined Zamalek from Dina Farms in the summer of 1999 but was always rated as a back-up custodian. He played regularly on numerous occasions though due to the persistent injury problems of regular keeper Al-Sayed. Al-Sayed, who seems to have finally shaken off his niggling complaints, produced some impressive displays this season to restore his place between the sticks. "I have a great relationship with twin brothers Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan (coach and football director respectively) on and off the pitch. "My decision to leave after 10 years wasn't made because of disagreements," Abdul-Monsef concluded.
