Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Abdul-Monsef has backtracked on his decision to leave the club. The team's second-choice goalie handed in a transfer request recently, citing personal problems. He also said he was angry that Zamalek officials did not stand by him when media and fans heavily criticized him. Abdul-Monsef was close to joining promoted side Gouna but had a change of heart after sitting down with Zamalek icon and board member Hazem Emam. "We cleared the air during that meeting. There are not any problems now," Abdul-Monsef said on Zamalek's official website on Thursday. "I really respect Zamalek board and fans, whose support always helped me in my career." The 32-year-old joined Zamalek from Dina Farms in the summer of 1999 but was always rated as a back-up custodian. He played regularly on numerous occasions though due to the persistent injury problems of regular keeper Abdul-Wahed Al-Sayed. Al-Sayed, who seems to have finally shaken off his niggling complaints, produced some impressive displays this season to restore his place between the sticks.
