Bayern Munich booked a place in the Champions League knockout phase with a 4-1 victory at Juventus that included a penalty from keeper Hans-Joerg Butt. A draw would have been enough for Juventus to join already-qualified Bordeaux in the second round but they couldn't achieve that target despite going ahead after 19 minutes. French veteran striker David Trezeguet volleyed home a Claudio Marchisio to put the hosts in front. Bayern keeper Butt leveled the score when he took a penalty himself after Martin Caceres fouled Ivica Olic to send his opposite number the wrong way. Striker Olice gave the German giants the lead six minutes after the restart with a close-range effort after Daniel van Buyten's header was parried by Gianluigi Buffon into his path. Mario Gomez added the third with seven minutes remaining and substitute Anatoliy Tymoshchuk completed the rout in stoppage time with a fierce drive. Bordeaux, who beat Israel's Maccabi Haifa 1-0 in the other game, finished on top of Group A with 16 points, six ahead of second-placed Bayern. Juventus finished third on eight points while Maccabi Haifa set an unwanted record after becoming the first team to lose all six games in a Champions League group without scoring a goal.
