FIFA have shortlisted five names for the 2009 World Player of the Year award, amid domination from Barcelona and Real Madrid stars. Three Barcelona players from the team that clinched the treble last season were named, in Argentine ace Lionel Messi and Spanish duo Xavi and Andres Iniesta. Real's top signings Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka joined the list, even though they mainly represented Manchester United and AC Milan throughout the year. It is expected to be a two-horse race between Messi and Ronaldo, who grabbed the award in 2008 after an extraordinary campaign at Old Trafford. Messi, who recently won the Ballon d'Or, remains a frontrunner though after his 36 goals last season with Barca.
