Bayern Munich coach Louis van Gaal dished out praise for young defender Holger Badstuber, who came across as a revelation with the Bavarians this season. The 20-year-old, who came through Bayern's youth ranks, impressed with the senior team on more than one occasion, and he's widely expected to secure a regular first-team berth. "Holger Badstuber has come on extremely well this season, both as a player and as a personality," Van Gaal told Bayern's official website. "Badstuber is a viable option for the left-back position for the future. It all depends on the internal competition though. "We have Braafheid as a left-sided defender, and Philipp Lahm can do the job as well. "And against Schalke, Badstuber showed he can play there too. And (Martin) Demichelis showed he can play as the left-sided centre-back. "He can play centre-half or full-back from now on, and that's good. I really like versatile players who can fill more than one position." Badstuber has made 12 Bundisliga appearances thus far. He made his competitive debut against Hoffenheim in Bayern's league curtain-raiser.
