A last-gasp strike from Cesar Delgado earned Lyon a precious 2-1 win over Liverpool at Anfield in the UEFA Champions League Group E on Tuesday. Yossi Benayoun fired the home side ahead four minutes from halftime with a close-range clinical finish, thanks to the inefficiency of the French team's defense. Lyon's substitute Maxime Gonalons headed the equalizer on 72 minutes on the rebound, before Delgado hit a stunner from a tight angle. The Reds' hopes of reaching the knockout stage have been heavily dented upon losing. Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard made his return to action, but was taken off after 24 minutes with a new injury. In the same group, Fiorentina recorded a 4-3 victory at Debrecen in a pulsating game, with Romania striker Adrian Mutu scoring twice for the Serie A side. Hungarian champions Debrecen were put upfront when Peter Czvitkovics opened the scoring only after a couple of minutes. But Fiorentina's one-goal deficit was quickly overturned after Mutu leveled the score four minutes later and Alberto Gilardino hit another on ten minutes. Mutu completed a brace in the 20th minutes, but Gergely Rudolf pulled one back for the home side two minutes from the half-hour mark. Fiorentina regained their two-goal advantage eight minutes before the break, thanks to a Mario Santana effort. Adamo Coulibaly netted the third for Debrecen two minutes from time. Lyon are now on top of Group E with nine points, three ahead of second-placed Fiorentina. Liverpool are third with three points, while Debrecen lie bottom with no points.
