Manchester United took the edge of a superb derby versus Manchester City, with Michael Owen scoring in injury time to give the champions a 4-3 Premiership victory. Owen came off the bench to score in the sixth minute of stoppage time after being set up by Ryan Giggs, who had an outstanding game at Old Trafford. In addition to Owen's winner, Giggs dished out two goals for Darren Fletcher as Wayne Rooney opened the scoring for the Red Devils. The resilient City cancelled United's lead three times, courtesy of a brace from Craig Bellamy and a goal from Gareth Barry. United temporarily go top with 15 points from six games, leveling with Chelsea, who host Tottenham Hotspur later. City are fifth with 12 points from five games.
