Barcelona won their second trophy in less than a week when Pedro Rodriguez's extra-time goal gave them a 1-0 victory over Ukraine's Shakhtar Donetsk in the European Super Cup on Friday. The Spanish winger replaced Zlatan Ibrahimovic on 81 minutes and notched the winner five minutes from the end of extra time. A neat exchange of passes between Pedro and Argentine winger Lionel Messi released the 22-year-old, whose low shot eluded Shakhtar keeper Andriy Pyatov. European champions Barcelona, who won the Spanish Super Cup last Sunday at the expense of Athletic Bilbao, dominated much of the play but barely created clear-cut opportunities. It was their fifth trophy this year after the Catalans clinched the treble last season.
