Zamalek are looking to sign Lierse's out-of-favor striker Islam Shokri on loan until the end of the season, a source close to the player said on Wednesday. "They (Zamalek) opened talks with Shokri three days ago. Negotiations are underway," the source, who refused to be named, told FilGoal.com. "Zamalek initially wanted to sign him on a permanent basis but Lierse turned down their offer. "Both sides have now reached a preliminary agreement that will see Shokri join the Cairo club on loan before the closure of the January transfer window." Zamalek are seeking to reinforce their frontline upon the request of new coach Michel Decastel. They have already wrapped up the signing of Mansoura hitman Mohamed Al-Morsi. Shokri has been a regular member of Lierse's reserve team this season. He rarely played with the senior team. The 25-year-old started his career with Arab Contractors. He won with them the Egyptian Cup title in June 2004 and contributed to their local Super Cup triumph few months later. He joined Ismaili in 2005 but his stint with the Dervishes was not successful. He departed after just one season to move to Olympic. Shokri was part of Egypt's U-20 team squad which won the 2003 African Youth Championship in Burkina Faso under current senior team manager Hassan Shehata. He also took part in the U-20 World Cup in UAE in the same year. Shokri was Shehata's third-choice striker during the tournament. Watch Shokri in action
