Amr Zaki missed an open goal as Wigan Athletic slumped to a 1-0 defeat at 10-man Manchester City in the Premiership on Saturday. Pablo Zabaleta scored the winner seven minutes after the interval to give City all three points. He capitalized on Daniel Sturridge's poor clearance on the edge of the area to fire into the top corner of the net. City had skipper Richard Dunne sent off shortly afterwards for kicking out at Egypt striker Zaki to receive a straight red card. Zaki wasted a golden opportunity to draw Wigan level six minutes from time. Lee Cattermole's deflected header struck the bar and went into the 25-year-old's path, but he headed astonishingly over the bar with the goal at his mercy. Zaki, who scored 10 league goals so far, did not find the net for the second successive match. Wigan, who suffered a midweek defeat to Manchester United, are seventh in the league table with 31 points.
