Middlesbrough extended their winless run to seven matches after suffering a 1-0 home defeat to Everton in the Premiership on Friday. Australian midfielder Tim Cahill scored the winner six minutes after the restart through a close-range effort. Egyptian striker Mido played the full 90 minutes, partnering Turkish forward Tuncay Sanli upfront. The former Tottenham Hotspur man last found the net in Middlesbrough's 1-1 draw with West Ham United on the first of November. His compatriot Mohamed Shawky was not included in the game's squad. Everton proved too good for Boro, whose best chance came two minutes from time. Towering frontman Mido flicked on a long ball but Brazilian striker Afonso Alves shot wide with the goal at his mercy. The defeat leaves Middlesbrough languishing in 17th place on 20 points. Only goal difference separates them from the relegation zone.
