Middlesbrough, whom Egyptian striker Ahmed Hossam 'Mido' plays for, secured a 1-1 draw with Everton at Goodison Park on Sunday. Mido didn't feature for Gareth Southgate's men as the former Tottenham striker is sidelined with a hamstring injury. Midfielder Gary O'Neill put the visitors up front on eight minutes, before Nigerian international Yakubu Aiyegbeni leveled for Everton in the 65th minute. Middlesbrough looked dangerous on counter attacks at large parts of the game, as they adopted a defensive approach against David Moyes' men. Stuart Downing played the bigger role in Middlesbrough's opener. The England winger sparked his way down the left wing before squaring towards O'Neill who slotted past Tim Howard in the Everton goal. Moments later, Everton could have equalized if it wasn't for Ross Turnbull's heroics. The Middlesbrough keeper brilliantly blocked Yakubu's effort from close range. The Toffees had another chance wasted when Joleon Lescott's cross went over Turnbull and clipped of the bar. Everton finally scored midway through the second half. Leon Osman's powerful free kick stormed its way through the Middlesbrough box, before coming off Yakubu's back into the Turnbull's net. After the goal, the home side kept pushing for a winner and they almost scored when Louis Saha's flicked header found Yakubu, but the latter fired his shot wide. The draw leaves Middlesbrough eighth in the league with eighteen points, one spot behind seventh-placed Everton.
