Egyptian football lacks professionalism – Zamalek's Ricardo
Published in FilGoal on 25 - 11 - 2008

After receiving a wave of criticism, Zamalek left-back Ricardo Alves is seemingly going to leave the club in the near future.
The 26-year-old has been recently transfer listed, following a host of conflicts with his teammates and the Whites' officials.
However, the Brazilian denied having disputes with coach Reiner Hollmann, citing problems with some board members as the main reason behind his failure to adapt to the club.
"I would like to clarify that I get on well with Hollmann. I only have problems with the club board," Ricardo told FilGoal.com.
The troubled player, who has been repeatedly accused of being disobedient, defended himself and blamed others for his turbulent short stint.
Mistreatment
"Throughout my career, I have never been treated like that. I feel repulsed by my teammates and the club officials as well," he said
He alluded that his infamous on-field spat with striker Gamal Hamza turned him into an undesirable figure.
Both players embarrassingly exchanged slaps during an Egyptian League game, and ever since Ricardo has become unsettled.
"Unfortunately, some of the popular players in the team initiated my problems. They managed to convince the board that I'm a trouble-maker," he added.
The expatriate player also expressed his refusal to be described as rebellious, saying he only started to skip training sessions when he was expelled from the first team.
Doubtful future

Ricardo failed to fit in
Ricardo is now expected to exit the club by the January transfer widow, but so far his future remains vague.
"I am not sure whether or not I would eventually leave, but I won't seal a move against my will," he said adamantly.
"I can't stand this horrible treatment any longer. I would only change my mind and stay if the club offered me a new contract that includes the appropriate perks as a foreign player."
Despite not having a copy of his contract, Ricardo asserted that the release clause will not be an obstacle to his departure.
"Now I am trying to terminate my contract with the club in a friendly way," he unveiled
Football Obsession
Apart from his fruitless period, the flank man said that the Egyptian football is enjoyable, adding in the same breath that it lacks professionalism and discipline.
He also said he wished to play alongside Zamalek playmaker Mahmoud Abdul-Razek 'Shikabala'.
"I was keen to play side-by-side with talented versatile Shikabala, but unfortunately I didn't get the chance as he was suspended for the past several months," he explained.
Additionally, Ricardo believes that both Egyptians and Brazilians are obsessed with football.
"The common thing between Brazilians and Egyptians is that they are both crazy about football," he said.
