Ahli triumph is no surprise
Published in FilGoal on 17 - 11 - 2008

Ahli's record-breaking sixth Champions League triumph came as no surprise as the Red Devils are far superior to any other team in Africa.
The Cairo giants are well equipped to win Africa's premier competition for several years to come. They have what it takes to maintain their complete domination over the Dark Continent.
Being a self-sufficient club that do not rely on the financial backing of a particular person, as well as having a stable administration give Ahli assurances for their future.
Ahli are also capable of holding on to their stars, while the majority of African teams find it hard to reject European overtures.
They routinely rejuvenate their squad to remain the dominant force on the local and continental levels.
However, Ahli shouldn't rest on their laurels if they are to maintain their splendid run of results.

Ahli shouldn't rest on their laurels if they are to maintain their splendid run of results.
Although they won the Champions League and are highly likely to clinch a fifth consecutive Egyptian League title, Ahli need to strengthen their fragile and ageing backline.
Trio Wael Gomaa, Shadi Mohamed, Ahmed Al-Sayed formed the backbone of Ahli's squad that won a host of titles over the past few years but they have become too sluggish to remain intact.
They were caught ball-watching more than once against Coton, who managed to score two goals in Sunday's finale.
Ahli leaked five goals in seven league games as their defensive record is not good enough for a club of their caliber.
It is true that the 33-time Egyptian champions are in a league of their own, but they should make the most out of the January transfer window nevertheless.
They ought to maintain their superiority.
