Two superbly-taken goals from Amr Zaki were not enough for Wigan as the Latics surrendered their lead twice to allow Liverpool claim a remarkable 3-2 victory on Saturday. The Egypt striker fired the visitors in front after capitalizing on a dreadful blunder by Danish defender Daniel Agger. Dutch striker Dirk Kuyt leveled the score but a brilliant acrobatic effort by Zaki just before the break helped Wigan regain control over the game. The 25-year-old, who joined Wigan from Zamalek on a season-long loan, took his tally to seven goals in the Premiership as he tops the scorers' chart. Wigan sat back to defend their lead in the second period but their relentless efforts were to no avail, especially after the dismissal of Antonio Valencia in the 75th minute for a second bookable offense. Albert Riera and Kuyt struck home late in the game to give Liverpool all three points. Liverpool, who are yet to taste defeat this term, have 20 points. They lie second in the league table due to their inferior goal difference to leaders Chelsea. Wigan are 14th with eight points from as many games. Zaki's Brilliance The evergreen Zaki stunned the home crowd after 29 minutes with a goal-poaching ability. Liverpool's Agger rashly controlled Jose Reina's pass, allowing Zaki to rob him on the edge of the area. He went one-on-one with the Spanish keeper before firing into the bottom corner with aplomb. Agger atoned for his dreadful error to set-up Kuyt for Liverpool's equalizer in the 37th minute. He exchanged passes with Andrea Dossena down the left flank, overcame Lee Cattermole's challenge with a smart feint before providing a low cross to the unmarked Kuyt. The former Feyenoord man made the most of Agger's gift to slot past Chris Kirkland and draw the Reds level. But Zaki demonstrated once again that he is the Premiership's most efficient close-season signing after restoring Wigan's advantage in a superb fashion. Few moments before the break, the combative frontman perfectly adjusted his body to receive Valencia's pinpoint cross with an outstanding acrobatic volley that left Reina with no chance. But the Latics were made to pay for playing with a pure defensive strategy in the second period. Their negative approach helped Liverpool mount sustained pressure on the visitors' defense that resulted in the Reds claiming a precious win. A rare right-footed shot from Spanish winger Riera in the 80th minute gave Liverpool the equalizer before Kuyt's close-range volley five minutes later completed the turnaround. Watch the match's goals
