Atletico Madrid are to host their upcoming UEFA Champions league match against Liverpool as the European governing body granted them a reprieve. The Spanish side had received a three-match stadium ban following their fans' suddenly-erupted riots after a Champions League showdown against France's Marseille. But upon Atletico's appeal, UEFA made an exception, and the Champions League tie is set to be held at Vicente Calderon as originally planned. "After immediate consideration of the request for suspension, and having considered in particular the organizational and logistical difficulties related to relocating the Atletico V Liverpool FC match to another venue at short notice, the chairman of the Appeals Body has decided to grant the request for suspension of the sanctions,” UEFA said in a statement on their website. However, the European Federation announced that Atletico still have a two-match stadium ban to serve after their encounter with the premiership team. The UEFA is yet to impose another punishment on Atletico for the chaotic incident at Vicente Calderon. Read also: Madrid derby, A history of a political and social rivalry
