Raul scored two goals to save Real Madrid from defeat against visitors Espanyol as both sides settled for a 2-2 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu. The result left Real Madrid fifth with 11 points after six matches, just three behind leaders Valencia, who edged 1-0 past Valladolid. Veteran striker Raul Tamudo broke the deadlock in the 21st minute after converting a penalty-kick but Raul leveled in four minutes with a fine header. Luis Garcia restored the lead when he ghosted behind Real defenders and slid to slot a low cross past a stranded Iker Casillas. Real equalized again through skipper Raul, this time burying a low right-footer into the left bottom corner.
