Barcelona look for first season win in Champions League opener
Published in FilGoal on 16 - 09 - 2008

Spanish giants Barcelona will be hoping to register their first win of the season when they host Sporting Lisbon in the UEFA Champions League opening round on Tuesday.
The Catalans have lost and drawn their first two league games, but despite the poor start coach Josep Guardiola stressed that Tuesday's clash against the Portuguese would be the perfect timing to get back to winning ways.
In the same group C underdogs FC Basel of Switzerland and Ukrainian outfit Shakhtar Donetsk will be hoping to win a boosting three points before clashing with either Barcelona or Sporting in the next round.
After losing out on their first ever Champions League title losing in the final last season, Luiz Scolari's Chelsea will be up at home against Bordeaux and in the group's other game AS Roma will be focusing on putting poor league form behind them when they play Romanian newcomers CFR Cluj.
After their important league win against Manchester United on Saturday, Liverpool will be hoping to repeat last year's 4-o win when they face Olympic Marseille at the Velodrome.
Also in group D, one of the round's most even clash take place between ambitious PSV Eindhoven and Atletico Madrid.
In his first Champions League game in charge of Inter, Jose Mourinho will be trying to avoid unpleasant surprises when his team meets Panathanaikos.
German club Werder Bremen will have a relatively easier task on their hands when they take on Anorthosis Famagusta in Bremen.
