Egypt's sole Badminton athlete Hadia Hosni was off to a winning start in the first day of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
Hosni booked a place in the last 32 round of the Women's Singles Badminton competition after beating Mexico's Deyanira Angulo on Saturday.
The Egyptian won 2-1 after claiming the first game 21-18 and the third game 21-14, while Angulo won the second game 21-7.
A shocking result for Egypt came in the Men's Middleweight Boxing competition, where Athens 2004 bronze medalist Mohamed Hikal was eliminated from first round.
Other Egyptian athletes in Shooting and Archery have also recorded poor results.
Shooting
Egyptian duo Adham Medhat and Mahmoud Abdul-Ali registered disappointing results in the Shooting Qualification.
Medhat scored 64 points in the Men's Trap Qualification to lie 34th (out of 35), while Abdul-Ali scored 563 points in the 10m Air Pistol Qualification to lie 47th (out of 48).
Athens 2004 gold medalist Mohamed Al-Maktoum of UAE also recorded an underachieving result in the Trap competition as he scored 69 points to lie 19th.
In the Women's 10m Rifle Qualification, Egypt's Shimaa Hashad finished 23rd (out of 47) after scoring 393 points.
In the competition's finals, Czech Republic's Katerina Emmons won the gold medal, setting a new Olympic record of 400 points.
