Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hit back at the transfer system that turned the players more like mercenaries. "If I had the power to change anything basic in football, it would be the transfer system which makes mercenaries of players," the Frenchman told the News of the World. Wenger is fighting to block Emmanuel Adebayor's move to Barcelona but it seems likely to happen as the Togolese striker has asked for a 400% wage rise. "If they are bad ones, they stay, and if they are good, they think only of leaving. "I have fought for them to earn a very good living, but I impose respect for their contract upon them," added the Gunners boss. The French tactician has just lost Matthieu Flamini who refused to extend his stay at the Emirates and moved to AC Milan. "The club's strategy is to favor the policy of youngsters ahead of stars and to count on the collective quality of our game. We have to sell every year and to buy less expensive players," concluded Wenger.
