Bayern Munich midfielder Mark Van Bommel insisted not to perform an operation on his broken nose ahead of Thursday's UEFA Cup clash with Zenith St.Petersburg. The Dutchman sustained the injury last week, when Bayern clinched the German Cup at the expense of Borussia Dortmund. The Bavarians' official site stated that Van Bommel 'took responsibility for the decision' after doctors advised him to undergo surgery. The former Barcelona man is determined to play with a protective mask against Zenith and then face Stuttgart in the Bundesliga decider next weekend. However, Ottmar Hitzfeld's team will miss top marksman Luca Toni, who is suspended for the Zenith game.
