Ahli have filed an official complaint to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) over the referees' poor display in both legs of the Champions League final against Etoile Sahel. The complaint was sent to CAF general secretary Mostafa Fahmi, the Cairo giants said on a statement on their official website. The five-time African champions missed out on securing an unprecedented third successive Champions League title after losing 3-1 to Etoile, thanks to some controversial refereeing. In the first-leg goalless draw in Sousse, Mohamed Barakat was denied a clear penalty by Cameroonian referee Evehe Devine, who booked the mercurial midfielder for alleged diving. Moroccan official Abderrahim El-Arjoune also stirred controversy in the second-leg, twice waving play on although Mohamed Abou-Treika and Ahmed Shedid were brought down inside the area. "El-Arjoune deliberately didn't award us two clear penalties," the Red Devils insisted. Ahli also said that El-Arjoune failed to protect their players, who were subjected to insults from Etoile players as well as off-ball confrontations.
