Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster saluted his players' performance in their Champions League first round victory against Werder Bremen 2-1 on Tuesday night. “The team worked for this victory against difficult opponents. We fought tonight and deserved to win. Our opponents' tactics were not good for us, we looked for different ways to score but Bremen are a difficult team to beat,” the German tactician told a press conference after the game. Real had to dig deep to get the victory as Raul gave his side the lead but just for a few minutes before being cancelled by Werder's Sanogo. Ruud Van Nistelrooy had the last word with a late winner to snatch the full points of the game. Schuster was full of praise for his midfielder Fernando Gago who exerted a huge effort to put Werder's prolific playmaker Diego under control. He also hailed captain Raul saying he “ is a fighter, he never gives up and he will never drop his quality. The Spanish Champions will be Lazio's guests on October 3rd while Werder Bremen will host Greek Olympiakos.
