Champions Inter Milan conceded a 90th minute own goal by Ivan Cordoba to draw 1-1 at home with Udinese and lose two points in the first match day of the Italian Serie A. After Dejan Stankovic's 10th minute opener for the Nerazzurri, Colombian defender Cordoba fired into his own net in the dying seconds of the game to level the scoring. Inter goalkeeper Julio Cesar was sent off after 57 minutes, when he committed a handball outside the penalty box. In Genoa, European champions Milan were off to a flying start to their new season after they rout newly-promoted Genoa 3-0 away.
Kaka scored twice Massimo Ambrosini opened the scoring for the visitors after 20 minutes, before Brazil superstar Kaka added two more in the 44th and 45th minutes. Cup champions Roma also grabbed a 2-0 away win at Palermo, courtesy of goals from Philippe Mexes and Alberto Aquilani. Fiorentina seemed unfazed by the absence of their former marksman Luca Toni, as the Viola see off Empoli 3-1 in Florence.
